Project: Be Secure ` As a computer user, you should be aware of how to protect yourself by configuring security settings for your web browser. In the lab or with your own computer running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer, let us spend some time reviewing the Windows Firewall settings and Internet security settings including the Parental Controls section. Write down existing settings so you can restore the system to its original configuration when you finish the lesson. Make a short list of specific well known web sites (such as www. yahoo. com, www. bing. com, or www. cnn. com) or some web sites you have visited before. Set up Parental Controls to block the sites. Then test what happens when you try to visit those web sites by typing the URL in directly or by clicking its link on another site (such as a search engine). Make notes about the experience. Restore these settings back to the original before you take the next step. Next, use Parental Controls to block sites by type or content, making sure to include criteria that matches at least one of the sites on your list. Visit the same set of sites and see what happens.
