During the Civil Rights Movement the police used violence for political purposes in an event known as “Bloody Sunday” where protestors were beaten and hospitalized because they disobeyed police blocking their protest. In contrast, the leaders of the Movement chose the tactic of nonviolence. After all, the use of violence as a political strategy does not solve any situation.
