Some people believe that with the fire causing the ship so much speed that it crashed into the iceberg. With all this in mind, more lives could have been saved if the fire was put out but the crew isn't to blame for the fire. In general, a coal fire is extremely difficult to deal with under the best circumstances; the crew was doing their best to fight the fire best they could at the time.
