A prevalent concept In Gothic literature is the idea of the double. Some doubles are meant to symbolize the dark side of an otherwise good character, which the good character tries to suppress. The more the good character tries to suppress this dark side, the stronger the evil side seems to become. The split-off self becomes the evil doppelganger for the main character. Usually, the main character's flaws cause the evil side to come to life, making the main character a tragic hero. How do you see this happening in Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Provide textual evidence for your response.โ€‹
