Write a journal entry of five to ten complete sentences. What did you think about the way Annie Sullivan handled her first day at the Kellers’ house? Be specific.

They are skeptical and concerned about entrusting Helen to somebody else.

The Keller family members have differing opinions about Helen’s intelligence and capacity for learning because she is deaf and does not speak.

She was considered a bright but spoiled and strong-willed child.

She wanted to help Helen because she was just like her and she knew how she feels and all.

Sullivan showed great maturity and ingenuity in teaching Keller.

Explanation:

At only 20 years of age, Sullivan showed great maturity and ingenuity in teaching Keller. She wanted to help Keller make associations between words and physical objects, and worked hard with her rather stubborn and spoiled pupil. After isolating Keller from her family in order to better educate her, Sullivan began working to teach Keller how to communicate with the outside world. During one lesson, she finger-spelled the word "water" on one of Keller's hands as she ran water over her student's other hand. Keller finally made her first major breakthrough, connecting the concept of sign language with the objects around her.

In the beginning of The Miracle Worker, Helen is extremely willful. Her family has never challenged her. Annie realizes she must first figure out how to control her behavior and teach Helen self-restraint. After she sees progress in this area, she begins to teach Helen hand symbols for various objects. At first, Helen views the hand symbols as merely a repetition game, and she fails to connect the symbols to the objects.

Although Annie is hopeful that this repetition will work eventually, her doubts are so overwhelming that she asks the Kellers for complete control over Helen. They are skeptical and concerned about entrusting Helen to somebody else, but Annie feels that it is necessary for Helen’s progress. She believes that Helen will fall back into old habits when she is under the care of her parents.

Once Helen’s parents give Annie this control, the teacher uses every method to keep Helen motivated, including repetition, force, and even resentment. One might watch the play and think, “Wow, she is tough with Helen!” But keeping in mind Annie’s past and understanding her goals with Helen, a hint of hope can be seen as she works in an uncompromising manner with Helen.

1.creeping like a snail is a simile used in this poem and it means the child is going to school unwillingly./a child is unwilling to go to school.

2. man becomes very frail and loses his physical strength when he becomes old, so much that his leggings that used to fit him snugly when he was in his youth are now too loose for him to wear, and that his shank has shrunk so much that this worldly stage is too big for a feeble actor like him. although, 'his youthful hose' just refers to his leggings/pants/ to shrink from danger; to shrink from contact.

3.the words "sans" means "without." it is a french word that is often used in english even today. so he is saying that in the last age of a man, the man is without eyes, taste, or anything else. he also says that this is the "last stage of all" and that it is the stage that ends a man's "history."
