Voter Turnout

How does the story contrast from the beginning to the end?

A. The radio station reports that Katie has lost, but then the principal announces Katie has won.
B. The main character starts out as sincere, but she ends up being phony.
C. The main character starts out losing the election but ends up winning it.
D. Maria starts out as class president, but then Katie is voted in.

Katie Glosse made sure to shake everyone's hand as they went into
the voting booths. She was favored to win the senior class presidency
by a landslide, but she wanted to make sure people saw her on Election
Day just in case they weren't already thinking about her.
She had campaigned for better cafeteria food, better textbooks, and
a better study hall, but the thing that put her over the top with the seniors
was her stance on the prom. She had promised to change it from the
dreary gym to a ballroom downtown. She made sure to talk to each
senior, shake each of their hands, and listen to each of their complaints.
Now, that Election Day was here, she was eager, but not nervous
She knew she had it in the bag.
Everyone showed up, and the lines to vote streamed outside of the
school. Even the campus radio station was there. They fixed her
microphone to test the levels for an interview with Katie after she won.
Katie made sure to hide the microphone behind her good-luck corsage
And one by one, each of the students came forward to lend his or her
support
"I just wanted to say that I'm behind you," said Jordan Brewe.
"Thanks," responded Katie, clasping his hand and rubbing his
shoulder
"I'm voting for you," said Maria Dawes.
"Every vote helps!" Katie responded with a hug.
Her running mate, Georgia McCombs, stood by her side whispering in
her ear. "This is great," she said. "We're going to win; no problem."
Just then, the radio show went live.
"I certainly hope so. I've treated these losers like royalty for the past
three months. Now that I've got their votes, I don't have to be seen with
any of them," Katie replied.
Suddenly, Katie, the entire voting room, and the lines of people
waiting to vote all heard her voice ring out over the school's loudspeaker.
Katie and Maria both looked at the corsage
"Oh no!" Katie screamed

Read the excerpt below from "letter from birmingham jail" and then answer the question below: "my citing the creation of tension as part of the work of the nonviolent resister may sound rather shocking. but i must confess that i am not afraid of the word "tension." i have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth. just as socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood." how does king's repetition of the term "tension" impact the meaning of the text? question 5 options: dr. king says that he is afraid of the word tension and he doesn't think it is necessary. dr. king repeats the word tension to explain how he sees the word as a negative force that discourages change. dr. king repeats the word tension unintentionally, and it doesn't impact the meaning of the text. dr. king repeats the word tension to support how he views the word tension as positive and growth-producing.
