Should teachers be held accountable for their students bad results?

I'm not sure if it's a discussion of an exposition, so I've tried to provide both sides.

Reasons against:

- There should be some teacher responsibility to properly teach the students but after that, it is the students responsibility to revise and study for exams to do well. Students have responsibilities too towards their learning.

- Students have different reasons for failing and doing bad in school for reasons not relating to school (i.e. living with abusive families, having a mental condition etc.)

- Most teachers only strive to teach the content in the curriculum, they don't write it. Many students fail as a result of the curriculum not adhering to their learning needs. The responsibility should lie on the system in this case.

Parents should be invested in their children's learning as it has a big impact, they can be held accountable in some cases too.

Schools and principals also share a responsibility.

Reasons for:

- Teachers can motivate and demotivate students to a certain extent. If a teacher isn't being encouraging, or puts extra pressure on students to succeed, they should be held accountable when students fail or don't do well.

- Research has shown that terrible teachers can leave effects even a few years later. It is the students responsibility to learn what is taught, but if it isn't taught properly, it causes problems for the student thus the teacher should be accountable.
