Beverage in cans 150 mm long and 60 mm in diameter is initially at 27°C and is to be cooled by placing it in a refrigerator compartment at 40°C. In the interest of maximizing cooling should the cans be laid horizontally or vertically in the compartment at 4°C. In the interest of maximizing the cooling rate, should the cans be laid horizontally or vertically in the compartment? As a first approximation, neglect heat transfer from the ends.

Water vapor initially at 10 bar and 400 °c is contained within a piston-cylinder assembly. the water lost heat to the surrounding according to isochoric (iso-volumetric) process until its temperature is 150 °c. the water is then condensed isothermally to saturated liquid. for the water as a system, calculate the work in kj/kg

Air enters a horizontal, constant-diameter heating duct operating at steady state at 290 k, 1 bar, with a volumetric flow rate of 0.25 m°/s, and exits at 325 k, 0.95 bar. the flow area is 0.04 m2. assuming the ideal gas model with k = 1.4 for the air, determine (a) the velocity at the inlet and exit, each in m/s, and (c) the rate of heat transfer, in kw flow rate, in kg/s, (b) the mass kg 0.3
