It is laughable when Republicans argue that the budget, as proposed by the Democratic majority in Congress, is irresponsible and spends too much. Obviously the Republicans do not want this budget to pass because they're afraid that the budget plan will succeed too well. They don't want Democrats to get the credit for stimulating our economy and for funding popular programs such as universal healthcare. Republicans claim that Democrats are going to bankrupt the country by driving up the national debt. But when the Republicans controlled Congress, they ran up some of the highest deficits our nation has ever seen. The only difference is that they spent all that money on expensive wars and tax breaks for the super rich. Now we can follow the same old mistakes the Republicans made when they were in charge, or else we can give the American people a budget that benefits more than just the super wealthy. When the people voted for a Democratic majority in Congress, they made their choice clear. The Republicans just don't get it: People are hurting, they are losing homes, they are losing jobs, and many can't afford even the most basic healthcare. How can a responsible government not recognize the pain of its citizens
