DNA stores a cell’s genetic information. During interphase, DNA replicates (makes a copy of itself). That's why during Prophase, there are already 2 copies of DNA (2 sister chromatids) connected together at the centromere. This is still considered one chromosome, but now it has twice as much genetic material. How does this help explain why daughter cells are identical after mitosis?
