Chemical weathering is the decay of rocks to produce sediments and soils. One of the most glaring evidence of chemical weathering on the earth surface is the thin soil cover found in almost all parts of the earth. Without chemical weathering of the parent rock materials, soils would not form.

Soils are closely associated to the parent rock in a particular area. When rocks are broken down by forces of physical weathering, the action of chemical weathering comes into place. Bonds between minerals becomes broken and new ones are formed. This process all together combines with other ones to form soils.
