Xylem is the plant tissue it's function is to conduct water from the roots and transfer it to all the parts of the plant structure. The xylem is composed of vessels, tracheids, xylem fibers and xylem parenchyma. Xylem vessels are the cells which are joined end to end and remain open at both ends helps in conduction of water. Tracheids are long and narrow they are dead cells. Their ends are not open and they help in upward conduction of water.  Xylem fibers are the cells that are dead at maturity. These cells provide strength to the plants. Xylem parenchyma are living cells, they help in conduction of water and also stores metabolites.

Phloem is the plant tissue that conducts food from the leaves to other parts of the plant. The phloem includes sieve tubes, phloem parenchyma, companion cells and phloem fibers.  Sieve tubes if formed by cylindrical cells that do not possess nucleus.
