Creon is a man of recognition.  He realizes that wisdom is the most important thing in life.  He speaks of how the gods would walk among men of ignorance, being of all know-how when man stands alone knowing only very little.  He admits to being one of those men.  Creon says "I have been a kind of butt for the dull of arrows".  This statement means that he has assumed the arrows won't harm or kill since they are dull and not spiked.  He too is ignorant because he does not know that a dull arrow can kill a man just as fast as a sharp one.  

The theme of the play is that ignorance Ignorance is an enemy, even to its owner.  Creon and his words help develop this theme because he waves the banner towards wisdom and knowledge.  His determination to keep learning and his drive to question authority is groundbreaking.  Creon follows the old rule; that in life you must either be smart or thou shall be strong.  He speaks of the great eagles of God- strong, in harmony in strengths, and high-wise and mighty.
