Explain the advantages and disadvantages of participating in group therapy.

Some of the advantages to having a group or family session is the low cost for clients: since a therapist is seeing multiple people at once, the cost per hour can be less per person. It can also save therapists time by allowing them to see more than one person at a time. Clients are also exposed to others with similar problems and are able to share ideas and advice.

Some disadvantages of group therapy include having to share a therapist with other clients when a person may prefer one-on-one attention. Being in the room with other people who have very different personalities may also cause conflict or discomfort among group members. If an individual in the group has a serious disorder, they may not benefit from group therapy.
