How did christian humanism and desiderius erasmus pave the way for the protestant reformation in europe

Desiderius Erasmus helped paved the way to the rise of Protestantism by the publication of Gree-Latin New Testament in 1516.  This was used by Martin Luther translate the Bible  from Latin to German.  This enabled the people to read the Bible and make their own interpretations.  His greatest contribution was the advising people to think and reason for themselves.  This led to people questioning the teachings of the Church.   Erasmus also focused more on one’s inner faith rather than the ceremonial practices of the Church and criticized many of the Church’s practices.  Christian Humanism contributed to the Protestant movement during the Renaissance where devoted Christians began to study the sources of the New Testament and the Hebrew Bible.  Inventions of the movable type printing, new inks and the use of paper made knowledge more accessible to people and this also contributed to the rise of Protestantism.
