The student is an auditory learner. This type of learner usually retains memory when the lesson is read aloud or when the teacher teaches the lessons verbally.  There are also studies that proved words were pushed into the long-term memory when read out loud thus shows improvement in retaining memory.

The student is using Deep Processing. This process of cognitive learning occurs when we learn new information based on its perceptual or semantic meaning. This allows the learning process to be faster and more durable, and then retrieve it more easily.
