Cultural hegemony is the reason why Talia wants the car despite knowing she can't afford it, when the commercial says "you deserve a luxury car.", it is a direct attempt to manipulate her values and beliefs. Considering her social-economic status, consumerism is not something that favors her class positioning, if anything, it traps her in debt and removes any prospect of social mobility. But what makes a person adopt beliefs that don't favor them as far as their position in society goes? Cultural hegemony! Cultural hegemony is a form of cultural domination in which the ruling class imposes its' beliefs (those that favor them) in what would otherwise be a cultural diverse society. In this way, the ruling classes' world view ends up becoming the social norm. This is a manipulation of beliefs, perceptions, explanations and values. A consequence of this is that all other classes within the society, in adopting the ruling classes' world view, end up working against themselves defending an ideology that legitimizes and perpetuates the relations of power within a society.
