the hanging gardens didn't actually hang. the writers explain that they were planted in terraces. why were they called the hanging gardens? the writers used the word "hanging" but they didn't know what it meant. the plants were overhanging, instead of just hanging. they were near a river. the people who interpreted the writings that explained the hanging gardens misunderstood the description.
