In the case of Paolo Veronese’s painting – Feast in the House of Levi was at first planned for the dining hall of the Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice. He finished the painting in April 1573 but it was called before the Holy Tribunal in July to response charges of indecorum in his large painting.
