The first historical factor that comes to mind that is important to sociology's origins is when Emile Durkheim established it as an autonomous science. To establish sociology in the academic community and to guarantee that it is genuine science, sociology must have an objective that is without doubt separate from philosophy or psychology with a distinct approach. Durkheim contended that "there is a certain group of phenomena in every society that may be differentiated from those studied by the other natural sciences.(Durkheim, 2008)[1895]" The second is when Auguste Comte applied the scientific method to the societal world(Henslin, 2017). After the French Revolution, Comte had questions about society, and the process he came up with is called positivism.
