The Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864 CE) was a revolt against the Qing dynasty in China, fought with religious conviction over poor economic conditions in China. The Qing Dynasty with help of the Europeans put down the rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901 CE)was an anti-foreign peasant movement. They blamed China's problems on foreigners, and especially on Christian missionaries. This rebellion was also put down by the Europeans.
Do these two rebellions represent a period of progress or decline for the people of China? Why?
