Imperialists often justify this action by stating that they're doing a good thing by spreading a more modern culture to the weaker countries and the locals would feel grateful for them.

They ignored the fact that the people of these countries were product of their ancestral culture and would not just surrender the land of their people to the foreigner just because they're forced too. They eventually revolted to the imperialists and extinguish their influence.
