Summary: In this assignment, you will choose a text you have read in this course to use as the focus of a text trailer. Based on your selection, you will create a trailer summary using important details and ending with a hook that makes the text enticing to a viewer.
Assignment Prompt
Choose a text that you have read in its entirety or over a series of lessons. It can be fiction or nonfiction. Create a trailer that expresses the essence of the text without giving away the ending. End with a hook that makes the viewer want to read the text. Include images, audio, and video that match the tone of the text and show important details. Ensure that you do not give away too much of the story plot, or main details, so that viewers are interested in finding out more.
Assignment Instructions
Step 1: Identify the conflict and important details.
a) Review the text you have chosen to find the main source of conflict (the problem).
b) Summarize the main plot points, or main details, that are included in the text.
c) Leave out details that give too much away.
d) Come up with a hook to end the trailer that will make viewers want to read the
text.
Step 2: Focus on tone and style.
a) Review the author’s word choice and the kinds of details that are included in the text to determine the text’s tone.
b) Choose a writing tone and style appropriate to the subject and format of the text.
Step 3: Create a trailer summary.
a) Use the conflict, important details, and hook to create a trailer summary. b) Make sure the trailer summary matches the tone of the text.
c) Stop the summary at the main conflict to avoid giving away the ending. d) End with the hook.
Step 4: Search for images, audio, and video.
a) Search for images, audio, and video to represent the parts of the text outlined in the trailer summary.
b) Use public-domain sources.
c) Save all the images, audio, and video files that you might use in one place.
d) Remember to save your trailer file as you work.
Step 5: Use a template to start creating your text trailer.
a) Choose a slide template to begin creating the trailer. Think about which template best fits the text you have chosen.
b) Remember to begin with an opener that shows the conflict.

 images that help show the main ideas of the text.

 audio that matches the images and text. (Look for a tool in your
presentation software to insert music or sounds from a file you have
downloaded or from a file you have recorded. Ask a teacher for help.)

a tool to insert a movie in your presentation software.)

Step 6: Design the trailer.
a) Select images that best represent the text.
b) Select fonts, font sizes, and font treatments that best show off the text.

d) Adjust the sound level and placement of the audio components to match the text and the needs of the trailer.
e) Edit the trailer to make sure that it is short. (Check with your teacher about a time limit.)
f) End your trailer with a strong hook and the title of the text.

Step 7: Evaluate your presentation using the checklist.
Answer these questions to determine whether you are ready to submit your multimedia presentation.
 Does your presentation include credits with the name of your text, your name, your teacher’s name, and the due date of the presentation?
 Does your presentation include credits with a list of all the sources you used for images, audio, and video?
 Does your trailer summarize the conflict and important details in the text?
 Did you use text, images, audio, and visuals that show details of the text?
 Did you use text, images, audio, and visuals that match the tone of the text?
 Is your presentation clear and easy to follow?
 Does your presentation fall within the time limit allowed by your teacher?
 Does your presentation end with a hook that entices the viewer to read the
text?
Step 8: Revise and submit your presentation.
a) If you were unable to check off all the requirements on the checklist, revise your presentation and save it before submitting.
b) When you have completed your presentation, return to the Virtual Classroom and use the “Browse for file” option to locate and submit your assignment. Congratulations! You have created a multimedia presentation.
c) Ask your teacher for further instructions about presenting your trailer to an audience of your peers.
