1.) The difference between religious groups and ethnic groups is that religious groups share a belief system in a god or gods with a specific set of rituals and literature. Ethnic groups share cultural ideas and beliefs that have been a part of their community for generations.
2.) The two largest religious groups in Africa would be Christianity and Islam.
3.) Christianity came first to the continent of Africa in the 1st or early 2nd century of AD. Oral tradition says the first Muslims appeared while the prophet Muhammad was still alive. (He died in 632) . Thus both religions have been on the continent of Africa for over 1,300 years.
