Selecting Cases-

1.Appealing to the Court

2.Debating Cases: they focus on cases in which a lower court ruling conflicts with a previous Supreme Court ruling, or where two lower courts rule differently on a similar matter. Mainly, the Court considers matters that have an impact beyond the parties involved.

3.Choosing Cases: If 4 out of 9 votes to hear, then all nine do it. This is known as the rule of four.

Processing Cases-

1.Court asks each party to prepare a brief explaining its concerns with the case

2.A 30-minute oral argument—open to public—from each side is heard

3.The justices assemble privately to discuss the case

4.When each justice concludes, since there are 9 justices, one side will have a majority and the case will be decided. When a tie, the lower court ruling stands
