After freeing Jewish people, He allowed some of them to return to Israel and rebuild the temple that got destroyed when they were attacked. Cyrus The Great is also known as Cyrus II, ruled Persian 559-530 BC. He was the first king of the Achaemenid dynasty. He then expanded his kingdom into a mighty empire. Cyrus conquered lands surrounding Mesopotamia. In October 539, the Persian king, Cyrus took Babylon and captured its king Nabonidus.

After the Persian conqueror of Babylonia, Cyrus permitted the Jews to go to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple, Bais Hamikdash. It also formally ends the Babylonian Captivity or Babylonian Exile in 538 BCE.
