The answer is to build new colonies. In the competition for power, nations raced to build new colonies.
EXPLANATION
Colonialism is a form of policy of one nation by using its powers on other territories. Colonialism means extending or occupying other places through colonization. During the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th century, Europian countries became richer and stronger because of industrialization. Other countries except Europian countries became weaker because they were failing to industrialize.
The Europian countries started to look for other countries outside Europe that they can use to have more raw materials and as a market for their goods. Colonialism gives effects to one country’s cultural, religious, political, and social aspect.
It goes both ways. It may give positive aspects and negative aspects at the same time. Positive aspects can happen, such as better education, modernization, improvement in social aspects, and much more development for the colony. Yet, there are also negative aspects as well. Aspects such as loss of culture, an unfamiliar system of the government, loss of tradition, loss of land, etc.
Colonialism can sometimes lead to imperialism, which is one country extending their rules and authority over other areas. This involves exploitation happening in the colonized country. Other than imperialism, colonialism can also lead to capitalism. The colonialized country can’t claim the ownership of their products. In the end, colonialism will give both negative and positive influence to a colonized country.
