And suddenly, Mary's blind mother came into the room. As a result of his hatred and fear, Bigger accidentally killed Mary Dalton using a pillow to suffocate her to death.

Bigger’s attitude toward whites was a combination anger and powerful fear. His defense falls on deaf ears and was sentenced to death by electrocution.
