What is the difference between cardinal and intermediate directions

Cardinal Directions are important for locating and using instruments such as compass and GPS.

They are points or directions of the earth's surface elaborated based on the apparent movement of the sun during the equinoxes (period of the year in which days and nights have the same duration). Thus, the four major directions corresponding to these cardinal points are: North (N), South (S), East (E), and West (W).

Intermediate Directions are formed with the nearest cardinal point and only then the collateral point. For example, between N and NE, we will have NNE.
