It is a psychology of school of thought which looks at the human mind and behavior both aspects. We all try to give the meaning of things but gestalt psychology said we do not concentrate on small things. Gestalt psychology gives a new modern approach to explain things as a whole. Max Wertheimer, Kohler Koffa originating gestalt approach. He said that the whole is greater than in small parts.  

For ex. When we see light on Diwali flashing light always appears moving. It just happened because acc. to gestalt psychology we fill the gap when watching that light and it appears as moving lights. this movement called apparent movement. Gestalt psychologist gives several perceptual law.
