What was one reason italian trade grew during the renaissance?

They needed a way to survive, because if they would not have trade, the food in the city would end, and the crops can die, and then, there is NO way for them to survive!
but with trade, people have the opportunity, to have different type of food, clothing, and lots more, and that way, they can have more options, on how to make their living better.
