Galileo galilei was born in pisa, italy in 1564. he was a physicist and a mathematician. he built a telescope to him study the sky. galileo first discovered that the moon had mountains just like earth. he also discovered 4 of jupiter's moons. using his telescope, galileo made many observations of our solar system. his book, sidereus nuncius or the starry messenger was first published in 1610 and made him famous. galileo's theory of the solar system was contrary to the common teachings of the catholic church. he was placed under house arrest for his views. what contribution did galileo make to the understanding of the solar system that put him at odds with the prevailing belief of his day? a) galileo believed that other planets orbited about the earth. b) galileo believed the earth and other planets moved around the sun. c) galileo believed the earth and other planets moved around the moon. d) galileo believed the earth and other planets moved independently of one another.
