In Abraham maslow's hierarchy of needs, self-actualization refers to a person's need to feel his/her full potential have been fulfilled. In general, people start to focus on this need after all of the needs on lower hierarchies are already fulfilled. (foods/drinks, Safety, Belonging Self-Esteem). Since older adults have more economic power and life experience, its more likely for them to fulfill all four of these needs compared to the younger ones.
