foot-in-the-door  is a technique that is often used to influence other people to agree to a large requests by making them agree to do a small request first.

When we already help other individuals with small requests, we will feel a positive feeling for yourself because we just help another people.  our peripheral cues would associate the positive feeling with additional request that come from that same person and make us more likely to comply to larger requests made by them.
