Why did jefferson allow many federalists to keep their government jobs? jefferson wished to avoid the expense of training republican workers to take the place of the federalist employees. jefferson realized he had already cut all the government positions that he could without causing a civil war. jefferson wished to ease party disputes, and he knew the federalist employees were hard working, loyal citizens. jefferson allowed the federalist employees to stay at their jobs if they were unimportant positions.
