However, the growing industry was very expensive. Seeking money, corporations grew in which Americans could invest money and gain "stock" for each corporations success.

This was also the cause for the recession in 2007. After the housing bubble burst, Americans stopped spending money. With no one spending money, prices on goods went up and people stopped spending EVEN MORE money. The recession caused an exponential amount of unemployment and poverty in the US.
