Task #2. a) Calculate the total resistance of the generator and electrical cable in this battery charging circuit. Initially use #16 AWG for your calculations. b) Find the battery charging cur-rent assuming the silicon rectifier diode has a 0.7 V drop across it and the battery has a con-stant 12 V terminal voltage. c) Find the total energy (in kW-hrs) delivered to the battery over a 24 hour period (assume the battery is charging during the entire time period). d) Repeat parts a, b, and c if the #16 AWG wire were replaced with #13 AWG wire. While their hydroelectric system worked it did not provide sufficient energy to meet all of their needs. So they included a solar power system to help meet their energy needs. This PV system consists of three photovoltaic panels mounted to the roof of their mountain home. Each of these solar panels has the ability to provide up to 100 W of peak power when ex-posed to full sun. Averaged over the full year, they are directly illuminated by the sun for a to-tal of eight hours per day. The amount of power available from each of these panels, on aver-age, at any given time during that eight hour period can be calculated using the following for-mulaPsolar=100e−0.125(t−4)2 wattswhere t is in hours and the peak power is generated when the sun is at it’s highest point in thesky.

Consider a 1000 w iron whose base plate is made of 0.5 cm thick aluminum alloy 2024-t6 (ρ = 2770 kg/m3 and cp = 875 j/kg°c). the base plate has a surface area of 0.03 m2. initially, the iron is in thermal equilibrium with the ambient air at 22°c. assuming 90% of the heat generated in the resistance wires is transferred to the plate, determine the minimum time needed for the plate temperature to reach 200°c.
