Scientific Method Review read the following scenario and answer the questions:
Students studying respiration decide to test the effect of temperature on the respiration rate of crickets. They
want to know if increasing the respiration rate. Students know that during respiration, organisms obtain oxygen
and release carbon dioxide, so they use carbon dioxide sensors to measure the amount carbon dioxide
produced by crickets exposed to different temperatures.
In Group A, students keep 10 crickets at 19 degrees C (room temperature) for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes,
they use the carbon dioxide sensor to measure to the amount of carbon dioxide produced by the crickets over
a period of five minutes.
In group B, students keep 10 crickets at 47 degrees for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, they use the carbon
dioxide sensor to measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced by the crickets over a period of five
minutes.
1. What is the dependent variable (what is being measured)?
2. What is the independent variable (what are they intentionally changing)
3. What are two controlled variables (constants)?
4. Which group is the experimental group?
5. Which group is the control group?
6. Write a hypothesis for this experiment
8. Define Observation: List two observations about the following picture.
Uh-
9. Define Inference: list two inferences about the picture above.
