A mass of 12 kg is pulled along a horizontal surface by a rope which makes a 15 degree below horizontal as in fig below. The tension in the rope is 80 N. The coefficient of kinetic friction µk between the surface and the mass is 0.38.

5. Draw a free body diagram and include all relevant forces.
6. Find the acceleration of the mass.

1. Show ALL equations, then substitution of numerical values with units.

2. If you have a string of numbers with no preceding equation, sketch, or explanation, you will receive NO CREDIT even if it leads to the correct answer.

3. Make sure all symbols used are clearly identified on your sketch. BOX each required answer. Show work in a Logical Order – Don’t jump around.
