1. A cannonball is launched with an initial speed of 20 m/s. Calculate the maximum height the ball could reach. 2. The cannonball from the problem above returns to the same starting height, but with a speed of 18 m/s. Describe how this either IS or IS NOT consistent with the law of conservation of mechanical energy. If this IS NOT consistent, then describe where the “extra” energy may have come from or been moved to.

3. The cannonball is now changed to be one of double the mass, but the SAME launch speed. What happens to the maximum height of the cannonball? Assume no air resistance. (Initial speed of 20 m/s)

Afisherman notices that his boat is moving up and down periodically without any horizontal motion, owing to waves on the surface of the water. it takes a time of 2.20 s for the boat to travel from its highest point to its lowest, a total distance of 0.670 m . the fisherman sees that the wave crests are spaced a horizontal distance of 5.80 m apart. (a) how much is the wavelength? (b) find the period of the wave. (c) how fast are the waves traveling? (d) what is the amplitude a of each wave?
