Yes, the type of light matters because if the red light was transmitted and the green light was reflected then there will be no change in the butter fly wings because the energy in the Ultraviolet light is what changes the object that absorbs it but if the light is reflected or transmitted the energy will flow with the light and be reflected and transmitted also.
