Materials You will need a clock and a hard covered book about 600-700 pages in length.
• Step 1Let's say your arm, when extended, is 1 meter length from shoulder to hand. If your arm is not that long don't worry - you will get the idea of work
anyway
• Step 2. Using one of your arms
• Hold the book in your hand.
• Position your hand at shoulder level.
Lift the book toward the ceiling so that your arm is fully extended
Bring the book back down to shoulder level
• Repeat this movement for one minute.
Count the number of lifts you did in one minute (the motion up and the motion down together equals one lift).
Remember the units are Newton meters or Joules because you lifted 1 Newton (the book) a distance 1 meter (your arm length). When a large amount of work is done, it
is measured in kilojoules (1 kJ = 1 thousand joules) or megajoules (1 mJ = 1 million joules). Weightlifters do work in kilojoules, while energy released by burning fuel in a
car is in the amount of megajoules
Using the Text Editor, record how much work you did (use the following equation number of lifts = work done). Try it again with books of varying lengths. Did the amount
of work you did change? Why or why not?

Air is to be preheated by hot exhaust gases in a cross-flow heat exchanger before it enters the furnace. air enters the heat exchanger at 95 kpa and 20°c at a rate of 0.6 m^3/s. the combustion gases (cp = 1.10 kj/kg°c) enter at 160°c at a rate of 0.95 kg/s and leave at 95°c. determine the rate of heat transfer to the air and its outlet temperature.
