Which would you expect to cool more quickly: water or iron?

Water can't get very hot like iron can, because it will just turn into a gas. But solids typically cool and heat faster than water. This is why the beach gets hot in the day and cold at night whilst the water will do the same but not as much as the land will. Iron as you may already know comes from ore, which is found in the earth.
