The first model of the atom was proposed by J. J. Thomson. This model is known as "plum pudding model".

In this model, the atoms consists of a positive charge spread in a 'dough', with many negative electrons stuck in it. The plum pudding model was proven to be wrong later by Rutherfod, with its experiment of scattering of alpha particles against gold foils.
