The Earth's crust is not solid. It is broken into pieces called tectonic plates, These plates float on top of the mantle, a layer of molten rock that circulates in
convection currents. The vertical circulation of these convection currents causes
the tectonic plates to move at a rate of mere centimeters a year. Over time, this
movement has resulted in changes to the location and shape of the continents
we know today, as some plate edges dive below their neighbors while new crust
is formed at others. The direction of plate movement is dependent upon the
direction of mantle circulation below the plate boundaries. The results of this
plate movement over time is shown in the pair of maps below.

Suppose you have a box. which of these is not necessarily a true statement regarding the relationship between the force applied to the box, the work done on the box, and the distance the box is moved? a. if the box is not moved, no force is being applied to the box. b. if no force is applied to the box, no work is done on the box. c. if work is done on the box, then a force is applied to the box. d. if work is done on the box, then the box is moved a distance.

Asolid cylinder and a cylindrical shell have the same mass, same radius, and turn on frictionless, horizontal axles. the cylindrical shell has light-weight spokes connecting the shell to the axle. a rope is wrapped around each cylinder and tied to blocks of equal masses that are held the same height above the ground. both blocks are released simultaneously. the ropes do not slip. which block hits the ground first? or is it a tie?

Use henry's law and the solubilities given below to calculate the total volume of nitrogen and oxygen gas that should bubble out of 1.7 l of water upon warming from 25 ˚c to 50 ˚c. assume that the water is initially saturated with nitrogen and oxygen gas at 25 ˚c and a total pressure of 1.0 atm. assume that the gas bubbles out at a temperature of 50 ˚c. the solubility of oxygen gas at 50 ˚c is 27.8 mg/l at an oxygen pressure of 1.00 atm. the solubility of nitrogen gas at 50 ˚c is 14.6 mg/l at a nitrogen pressure of 1.00 atm. assume that the air above the water contains an oxygen partial pressure of 0.21 atm and a nitrogen partial pressure of 0.78 atm.
