An interesting motion of Earth’s natural satellite called moon is it is a geosynchronous satellite. The geosynchronous satellite is a satellite whose orbital motion is synchronized with the rotation of Earth. In this way the geosynchronous satellite is always over the same point on the equator as the earth turns. This satellite is very useful for world communication, weather observations, and military use. a. From the center of the Earth to the moon, what should the orbital radius of such satellite be in order to stay over the same point on the earth’s surface?

b. What is the moon’s distance from the Earth’s surface? You can utilize the constants and other values found in the module. G = 6.674x10-11 Nm2/kg2 T = 24hrs = 86,400s mE = 5.997x1024kg RE = 6.38x106m
