As Mary stands at the edge of the canned vegetable aisle trying to rework her dinner plan, she notices
another customer placing a ham back into the bin. Before she can move, Mary sees another customer has
made the same realization. With her eyes on the prize, Mary quickly pushes her 20.6kg cart to make her way
across the 10.3m aisle in 2.40s to retrieve the ham first.
After finally checking out with her cart full of groceries, Mary heads back to her car. It takes her 23.4s to
push her 56.0kg cart the 40.0m from the front door to her car. As she approaches her car, Mary removes her
1.3kg purse from the front of the cart to her a resting position on her shoulder so that she can quickly load up
her trunk and be on her way.
1. What is Mary's velocity as she moves to retrieve the ham?
Þ. What is her acceleration during this time frame?
3. With what force did Mary push her cart in order to retrieve the ham first?
4. What is Mary's velocity as she travels across the parking lot back to her car?
5. What is the momentum of the shopping cart during this time frame?
6. What is the velocity of the cart after Mary removes her purse?

Unpolarized light of intensity i_0=750w/m^2 is incident upon two polarizers. after passing through both polarizers the intensity is i_2=280w/m^2. (a) what is the intensity of the light after it passes through the first polarizer in w/m^2? (b) write an equation for the angle between the polarizers in terms of the initial (i_0) and final (i_2) intensities. (c) find the angle between the polarizers in degrees.
