Earth's atmosphere is divided into five main layers: the exosphere, the thermosphere, the mesosphere, the stratosphere and the troposphere.

Troposphere:

It contains three-quarters of the mass of the Earth's atmosphere and is composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and a 1% mixture of argon, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. Air at the bottom of the troposphere or near the Earth's surface is warmer, which means the higher the altitude, the colder it is.

Stratosphere:

The stratosphere is characterized by temperatures that rise with height. As a result, the air is very stable, not mixing much vertically, and allowing distinct layers of air, or strata, to form. ... The air in the stratosphere has much the same composition as the lower atmosphere except for a higher proportion of ozone .

Mesosphere:

It is directly above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere. It extends from around 50-85 km above our planet (31-53 miles) possess temperatures that decrease with height throughout the mesosphere. The mesosphere contains strong zonal winds (east-west), atmospheric tides, planetary waves, and gravity waves

Thermosphere:

The thermosphere is the atmospheric region from ∼85 to ∼500 km altitude, containing the ionosphere. It is characterized by high temperature and large variability, in response to changes in solar ultraviolet radiation and solar-driven geomagnetic activity.

Exosphere:

The exosphere has gases like hydrogen and helium, but they are very spread out. There is a lot of empty space in between. There is no air to breathe, and it's very cold.
