An industrial pressure vessel is made of 1020 CD steel tubing with suitable end closures. This cylinder has a 50 in outer diameter, a 0.8 in wall thickness. Using the maximum-shear-stress theory, (a) determine the factor of safety if the pressure-release valve is set at 500 psi. (b) Determine the wall thickness if the factory of safety is 2.
