Q1. (a) A crane as shown in the Figure Q1 is used to lift the bricks via a cable X which is
made of alloy. Cable X has modulus of elasticity, E = 212 GPa and tensile strength,
Ots = 610 MPa and diameter of 10 mm. Cable X also has the design capacity with
the maximum allowable elongation is 0.02% which is also known as yield strain.
For each of the brick weight of 1.45 kg, calculate maximum number of bricks
allowed to be lifted to avoid exceeding the design capacity. Given the length of the
cable is 10 m. Provide you answer in 4 decimal points.
